Whiteboard Web Closed
If you’ve tried to visit the Whiteboard Web, and ended up here it’s because I have taken the decision to close the forum down for the time being.
Partly because there had been no new posts for a very long time, and partly because I made some updates to the phpBB code a few weeks back and broke it. And then made things worse when trying to fix it
Sorry….
I haven’t yet decided what I am going to do with the whiteboardweb.co.uk domain name. I have had a few plans. It may end up being where my IWB files go, moved across from the Think Bank site.
Until then, the domain will forward to this blog. As soon as I launch anything else, I’ll be sure to let you all know here.

Link Roundup
One of those posts with links that I didn’t feel warranted a blog post of their own. Have a play with them and see what you think!
Spell with Flickr – for those times you want a word to look really funky and you’ve exhausted all the fonts. This pulls in photos of letters from flickr to make your word. Embed into your blog or use a capture tool to grab the image to use in a flipchart.
Phrasr - Type a phrase and the site will pull in words from Flickr to match each word and then animates them in sequence. You can save them, and link to old ones via the archive. Here’s an example.
Bookr is from the same people who produced Phrasr. It lets you use flickr photos to make picture books which you can publish or share. A nice tool for literacy.
Another version of the Fridge Magnet Poetry idea can be found here. Looks like a shared space so you can create poems with others.
Elastoplast have produced a website that lets you create stories using characters built from plasters (band-aids). You can have 6 frames, select static or animated characters, draw on each frame, and add your own text desciption. Stories can be saved to their archive. A different way to do digital storytelling, as long as you don’t mind the obvious product placement! Write your stories here!

Selenia Science Comics
Here’s a nice comic book resource. Selenia is a school girl from another planet. Her adventures can be used to teach about Science Investigations and Materials.
There are 7 comics on the site which can be viewed full-screen to make them good for use on an IWB. There are also games such as word searches and quizzes. Throughout the comics are questions posed by the characters which would be useful as discussion starters.
The teachers section provides guidance on how to use the cartoons as a way of introducing practical science investigations such as dissolving and air resistance. PDF worksheets are available which are ready to use with your class.
Produced by The University of the West of England, these resources are suitable for KS3 Science (11 – 14 year olds)
Visit Selenia here, and see what you think!
