Whiteboard Twitter

I've been using Twitter for quite a while now, and I think it's a great way of building up a network of like-minded people. I've lost count of the number of cool web applications and tips I've got from people via Twitter. There are some very experienced educators out there talking about IWB's as well as cool uses of Web 2.0

It seems like many companies are finally embracing Twitter as a way of releasing information. In recent weeks both Smart and Promethean have started using it. It will be interesting to see how much will be two-way dialogue with users, and how much will just be pushing out press-release or company info. Only time will tell. Promethean have already been posting sneak peaks of the ActivStudio 4 Beta, which looks interesting.

If you do want to follow Smart on Twitter they are on there as MySmartSpaces and Promethean is on there as Activtweets and also as Activeducator. Worth keeping an eye on them anyway. And of course, I am on there as Dannynic if you want to add me to your following list.

Last post of 2008. I'm looking forward to 2009. I'm at the ASE conference again next week, then it's time for BETT09. Should be some good stuff on show again this year I hope.

So thanks for following this year, and I wish you all a very happy 2009!

Twitter Handbook

Continuing my diversion from IWB's into the world of Web 2.0 I have just stumbled upon a very interesting handbook to using Twitter

It's called the Twitter Handbook (no suprise there!) and you can sign up for your free copy from here: http://twitterhandbook.com/

I have been using Twitter for a few months and I have found that the network you can access via the site has been invaluable in many ways. There are some very knowledgeable people out there who are only too happy to answer questions and share good things that they have found on the Internet.

Hopefully this guide will help others get into the world of Twitter too!

Flickr and Twitter Guides

I've been playing with lots of online tools recently, but the two that are my current favourites are Twitter and Flickr. I want to use this blog post to promote two great guides that fellow educators have put together for these tools.

I've been on Flickr for ages and it's a great way of sharing your photographs, and also finding great images from others.

Susie Vesper has put together an excellent guide to the main features of Flickr and how you can make good use of it in education. There's lots of ideas there to inspire you. You can read her guide here.

If you do get into Flickr, send me a Flickrmail. My flickr screen name is dannynic

Another tool I've been making use of in recent weeks is Twitter. Essentially Twitter is a micro-blogging tool, but it has become a thriving community of educators and web2.0 fans who are all sharing and swapping ideas with each other. I have lost track of the number of excellent websites I have found about because someone on Twitter posted that they'd been using it. It can be hard to keep up with all the chat, but it's something I dip in and out of when I get the time.

Twitter's been struggling a little recently as more and more people use it, but hopefully it will sort these load issues out soon.

If you would like to find out more, then Tom Barrett has written an excellent guide on using Twitter as a teaching and learning tool. It's a pretty comprehensive guide and well worth a visit. You can read it here.

If you do get into Twitter, get in touch. My twitter name is Dannynic. (like most of my screen names!)
