Teachers looking for a way to show their iPad on their interactive whiteboard might want to take a look at Lonleyscreen.

LonelyScreen is a free AirPlay receiver for Windows and MAC. It is like an Apple TV running on your desktop. You can cast anying from your iPhone or iPad to your computer screen just you can with an Apple TV.

It works in the same way as AirServer or Reflector, but the best bit is that it’s free. Mac and PC versions available.

Set up was quick and painless. Install the client on your computer, then you just need to connect via your iPad (swipe up, choose airplay, connect). LonelyScreen will run automaticlly once installed. Its default receiver name is “LonelyScreen” but you can click the name to change it to whatever you want.

Remember, this only sends your iPad screen to your computer, you can’t control the iPad from your whiteboard!

It’s a great way of using your iPad like a visualiser/document camera. Combine it with a visualiser app like iVisualiser.  You could also use whiteboarding apps to annotate and present direct from your iPad.
