Primary teachers looking for some support to teach the new Science curriculum should go take a look at the brand-new Reach Out CPD site.
Reach Out CPD has been designed to make it fun and easy for you to gain the knowledge, resources and confidence you need to teach outstanding science lessons. You might even wow a few friends with your impressive scientific knowledge! The resources have been mapped to curricula for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Each online course is broken up into short learning units that include films featuring Imperial College London academics, tailor-made factsheets, images, diagrams, quizzes and lots of ideas for practical classroom activities. The site is totally free, all you need to do is sign up for an account.
The site is not yet 100% complete. The first 7 units are live now, with more to come leading up to a full launch later.
Reach Out CPD is a collaboration between Imperial College London and Tigtag – the award-winning online science and geography resource for primary schools.
A little disclaimer. I’m slightly biased in my view of Reach Out, as I’m the author! I’ve been involved in writing the units since April, and I’ve still got a few more to go! If you look carefully you’ll spot me in some of the Food and Feeding videos.
I think it’s an excellent resource, and I’m really proud of it so far. There’s a lot more to come, so keep the site bookmarked and wait for the full launch later this year.
