If you’re looking for some software to record presentations that combines your webcam, a visualiser, PowerPoint and more, then OBS studio is perfect for you. And it’s free.

Once you run the software you are able to set up various Scenes. Each scene contains a combination of different sources. So I’ve got one with my webcam and visualiser, one with webcam and powerpoint and one with webcam and browser. You could add other items such as logo images etc.

When you record your video you can quickly switch between scenes to transition between your different devices.

If you’re interested, you can also stream live to sites such as YouTube, Twitch and more. There are even ways to hook OBS up to Zoom to flick between different cameras during a zoom lesson.

So using OBS Studio you could start a video with just your webcam, switch to a PowerPoint presentation (with you in the corner) then switch to a visualier to do a live demo or write something on a mini-whiteboard. There’s lots of possibilities.

If we have to go back into lockdown in the future, then having the option to build up a bank of recorded lessons would be very useful. You could also use this for revision videos for exam groups to use.
